Project: Feminist Voices

My recent work explores possibilities and limitations of the emerging #MeToo moment. With Rosanne Kennedy and Hannah McCann, I guest-edited a special section of Australian Feminist Studies on “#MeToo’s Reverberations.” As an analyst of the cultural politics of yoga, I’ve become curious, and concerned, about the ways in which yoga is seen as both a cause and a cure for sexual injury. My article on yoga and sexual violation explores the underlying logics that allow yoga to be recruited into competing discourses.

My work on globalisation and cosmopolitanism has sought to uncover where and why practices gendered female are often overlooked as ways of thinking, feeling, and writing globally. My writing has considered concepts of “cosmofeminism” in fiction, explored the cosmopolitan potential of domestic spaces in Indian fiction, examined Indian cookbooks as underrecognised sites of cosmopolitan thinking in practice, and examined the gendered logic supporting new platforms of engagement, such as microfinance.
